| As one friend to another, Jesus, I want to know you, to remain with you, sharing your path. As one friend to another, I want to find you in Nazareth, carpenter, neighbour, storyteller, laborer, living in silence for thirty unremarkable years. As one friend to another, Jesus, I want to know you, to remain with you, sharing your path. As one friend to another, I want to follow you in Galilee, among the simple people, spreading the Good News, freeing, calling, setting the earth ablaze. As one friend to another, Jesus, I want to know you, to remain with you, sharing your path. As one friend to another, I want to be with you on the cross, crucified Servant, condemned Saviour, who dies forgiving, who gives himself up crying out Crucified servant, condemned Saviour, who dies forgiving, who gives himself up crying out. As one friend to another to a friend, Jesus, I want to know you, to stay with you, sharing your path. As one friend to another to a friend, I want to see you risen, conqueror of death, comforting, building, rebuilding history from its heart, giving life. As one friend to another to a friend, Jesus, I want to know you to stay with you sharing your path. As one friend to another to a friend, I want to see you, Jesus, among the people living in silence, setting the earth ablaze, Crucified servant, sharing life. Living in silence, setting the earth ablaze Crucified servant, sharing life. |
David Pantaleón SJ (1978- )is a Spanish Jesuit, musician, and composer associated with Ignatian spirituality and the renewal of contemporary liturgical music. Throughout his ministry, he has combined pastoral service with artistic creation, especially through songs that foster prayer, contemplation, and a personal encounter with Christ. His musical work is characterized by a simple, accessible, and deeply Gospel-oriented language. Among his best-known compositions are pieces inspired by the Spiritual Exercises, such as “Como un amigo a un amigo,” which encourages an intimate, everyday relationship with Jesus—like that of one friend with another.
